Back to the future

I woke up this morning in the year 2551, I was bruised and battered and had very possibly the worst hangover of this entire trip. Those darn two for one cocktail offers. But stangely enough as i washed the cut on my hand, examined the dent in my elbow and looked in the mirror i realised that 2551 is at all that unlike 2008, remarkably i look the same and i haven't any more grey hairs. Although with the trobbing pain in my head and the creaking in my bones i did feel a lot older this morning.

I'm in a town called Nang Khai just across the border with Laos, it's sort of nice to be back in Thailand, at least here you can get stuff you need. My on going battle with my camera continues, and now the charger has broken, but i was able to get a replacement one easy here, in Vientiane they don't even sell cameras. The town has more hardware shops that i have ever seen, quite strange. I mean why do they need all that copper wiring. I crossed over here via the Thai-Lao friendship bridge, built thanks to the Australians, who were probably sick of having the lug their backpacks on and off totally unseaworthy little boats at border control. I checked into a little guest house, called Mutmee, it has a lovely location right on the banks of the Mekong, a lovely dining garden area cut out of the jungle, and i have my own little room with a fan, a mosquito net and a toilet into which i have to toss water as the flusher.

Anyway that's all, really, i am heading to Khorat tomorrow on the train and from there onto the Cambodian border on Friday. Should make it to Siem Reap by then and then i promise my photos will be a lot more interesting.
